Testimonials say more about us than we could ever say ourselves! So, check out what folks are saying about us in the testimonial boxes throughout this page...

Q: How many wedding photographers work at Mick's Photography?

A: One, MICK!  His wife, Sarine, does most of the communications, contracts, etc.  She also assists in photo styling (poses). Mick has been photographing weddings for over 25 years, and doesn't trust just any other photographer to give you the art and passion that he ALWAYS gives to each wedding.  You get Mick on your wedding day, period!

Q: How many weddings do you do in a day?

A: One! And only on rare occasions do we more than one wedding in a weekend.  Our promise is to concentrate on  YOUR wedding! We take our commitment to you seriously.

Q: How many hours do you allow for photographing a wedding?

A: Since we only do one wedding in a day, we are not pressured to shortchange you to reach the next assignment.  The average time spent at a wedding is from 4 to 6 hours, but it could be more depending on the package you choose. The expected time at your wedding is stated in each package.

Q: What kind of camera equipment do you use, and how reliable is it?

A: We use digital cameras, Canon to be specific.  The cameras are equipped with the latest innovations to help make your photos superb!  Features like "image stabilization" (for sharper images), "multi-point/spot" focus (quicker focusing, easier creative control), full computer integration of lens, flash and exposure (tied to the stabilization and multi-point/spot focus) all make for great results you will be satisfied with for many years. We use four camera bodies to assure coverage should one camera fail... and there has never been a failure! That's why we chose Canon digital.

Q: Why do you use Canon digital?  Isn't medium format better? What about medium or large format digital?

A: The advances in photography over the past ten years has been nothing short of phenomenal!  400 speed digital sensitivity today rival the sharpness and tight grain of 100 speed films of just a few years ago. Today's digital sensors are much better than "professional" grade sensors of just 5 years ago. Color balance is great, and the "green" affect from florescent lights is practically a thing of the past.  Of course, who prints your photos is a very important part of this whole scenario, and we use the best processors we can find, no matter where in the country they are located.  Medium format film was the format of choice for really big enlargements, but we get great 16x20 enlargements all the time from our digital files, and even 20x30 is impressive! Since we give YOU the high resolution "negatives", it makes more sense to work in a digital format that gives you the most options. Our Canon digital cameras create huge RAW files that are converted to great JPEGs (both high-res and low-res) for your use without restriction!

Q: Why do you give high resolution files to the wedding couple?

A: As you have most likely noticed, most wedding photographers do NOT give you high resolution digital files.  Those that do usually charge an arm and a leg, or wait a year or two before releasing them to you.  Why? Most photographers make a great deal of money producing enlargements for the wedding party during the first few weeks after a wedding.  We don't do enlargements -- we give YOU the high-res files so YOU can do it at your convenience at the processor of your choice, either local or online.  As long as you keep the files in their protective sleeves (and perhaps make copies for safe-keeping), they will be as fresh and vibrant as the day they were taken at your wedding!  Just choose a reputable processor for your prints. (Advice on who to choose is free!)  No, we do NOT "build in" the price of the high-res files into our wedding package pricing -- the files are yours, period! :) NOTE: we make copies for our files "just in case" -- and for our ability to show great photos to other prospective brides and grooms.

Q: Do you do film photography?

A: We used to shot with 35mm film, and when it was developed we had CD-ROMs made at the same time with both TIFF files (medium-high definition) and JPEG files (for e-mail) included on the same disc. These were given to our client, for free with every wedding we did. The discs came with a viewing and printing program, but we encouraged clients to use a third party program (such as PhotoShop, Picture It, Lightroom or any other quality photo/graphics program) to get the best out of the TIFF and JPEG files. We still encourage the use of these programs. Now that we have embraced digital completely, we can offer you very high resolution 300 ppi images in the universally accepted JPEG format, as well as the common low-resolution 72 ppi JPEG files used for e-mail and small prints. Will these files last forever? -- probably not, but most photos are printed within the first couple of years after the wedding day, and you won't have any problems with the discs. As already stated, if you keep the discs in their protective cases, they will last for many many years. I do recommend that you copy them to new discs when technology changes the "normal" way of storing information. We firmly believe that JPEG format will be around for a long time, and that's why we use it.

Q: How long does it take to get my pictures back after the wedding?

A: About 2 to 4 weeks normally... it depends on how busy we are at the time of your wedding.

Q: What do I get when the photos are done?

A: Your photo selection is delivered in a complimentary album, and your large collection of images comes on a CD/DVD which is easily viewed for ease of ordering reprints and enlargements from your favorite processor. Some packages include enlargements (photographer's choice - "Best of Show") and parent albums. All discs come with a "release" from Mick's Photography allowing freedom of getting reprints from any processor.

Q: How is my photo package delivered to me?

A: Normally, you come to us to pick up your completed wedding package.  If this is not feasible due to distance, we ship the completed package to your door via insured UPS at no extra charge.

Q: How many prints do I get from all that you take at my wedding?

A: You get BEST OF SHOW prints from your wedding day!  We take many more photos than needed to assure that your photos include only the best of the day -- and we are sure you will be very pleased! (NOTE: you get many more photos on CD/DVD that you can print at home or have printed at your local processor of choice or online.) The number of prints and digital images is stated in each package description.

Q: How do you dress for the wedding?

A: A very good question that few wedding couples ask!  We have seen photographers come to weddings in very poor taste in clothing.  We come dressed appropriate to your wedding.  We blend in, and strive to help make your wedding day as smooth and hassle-free as we can!

Q: Can I choose when and where to have the formal photographs taken?

A: Absolutely! If you want your formal photographs taken before the wedding so you can flow easily from the wedding ceremony to the reception, we'll be happy to accommodate that.  If you prefer the more traditional approach of having the formal photographs taken after the ceremony, no problem!  We have a method of taking formals that saves time and stress. Ask Sarine about the "special moment" option for taking formal photos before the ceremony while still giving you that Special Moment when you see each other for the first time in gown and tux!

Q: How do I know that you will take the pictures I want?

A: Mick and Sarine are very good at knowing what pictures to take, and we ask questions to make sure we get everything you want..  A check-off list is available for your convenience if you wish to use it -- we will make sure everything you ask for is taken (within the limits of the size of the package you choose)! We work very closely with you -- it's YOUR day and we want to make sure your photos are the best and most complete they can be! The packages are built in such a way as to allow multiple images to be taken, and that avoids the problem of "running out" of "film" before the activities of the day are done.

Q: Do you prefer indoor or outdoor weddings?

A: It isn't what we prefer, but what do YOU prefer!  It is our job to capture in digital the events and happiness of YOUR day, whether it's indoors or out... or both! One of the benefits of shooting with digital cameras is the ability to change the sensitivity of the sensor (the digital "film") to match the lighting and mood of the moment.

Q: Can I have black-and-white photos?

A: Yes, you can! With your CD/DVD you will get both high definition and low definition images, either of which can easily be converted to black-and-white, or even sepia tone. Without the ability in your computer to make these adjustments, just take your CD/DVD into a good photo processor in your area and have black-and-white prints made to order, or work with a good online processor.  We prefer these methods over traditional black-and-white film because you can always turn a color photo into black-and-white, but you can never turn a black-and-white photo into true color (although you can add colors by hand or computer -- not quite the same thing!). One good processor online is www.mpix.com and the best local processor we know of is Photo Den in Grants Pass, Oregon (the link is on our links page).

Q: Do you travel?  And if so, how far?

A: Good question!  Yes, we travel.  There is no additional fee for travel anywhere in the greater Rogue Valley and reasonably close surrounding areas, which we can discuss with you.  We charge a nominal travel fee outside these areas, which may include lodging.  The pricing of the packages remains the same regardless of the wedding location.

Q: How much do I need to pay to reserve my wedding date?

A: 50% of the wedding package price (including travel if appropriate) reserves your wedding day and locks in the price.  This protects you from price increases and assures that nobody else will take your day on our calendar!  This non-refundable deposit also protects us as we schedule our wedding season.

Q: When does the remainder of my wedding package need to be paid?

A: We ask that we be paid in full 30 days before the date of your wedding.  That way, we don't have to deal with money on the wedding day! If you should book within a month of your date, we ask for 100% up front.

Q: How do I know for sure I have your services for my wedding?

A: We use a short contract to protect both you and us.  This assures you we WILL be there on your wedding day! The contract also gives us specific information needed to complete your package, ship to the right address, get directions to the wedding and the reception, etc.

Q: What if I have last minute questions or changes?

A: Sarine contacts the bride and groom a week or two ahead of the wedding to confirm information and answer any last minute questions.  She will catch any changes at that time, but please don't change the date at the last moment! -- we might not have the new date open.  Of course, you are always free to call us or e-mail us with changes/questions. You can even ask for specific photos on the wedding day - you'll find we are easy to work with!

Q: Do you have any references?

A: Sure! How many do you want? We have a large list of people willing to talk to you about us, our service, our reputation, our personalities -- anything you would like to know! Read the testimonials on this page for starters... As for photographic examples, just cruise through this site :)

Q: How big of a wedding can you photograph?  And how small?

A: We have photographed weddings in huge cathedrals in central California.  We have done weddings of well over 1000 guests. And, we have photographed weddings in churches so small that we literally have had to duck to keep from hitting our heads on the ceiling! True!! On occasion we have even served as witnesses as well as the photographers, which we are always happy to do :) No matter what the size of the wedding, we can and do cover it all! If you have special concerns, please call or email.
